What is Vitamin C

Although Vitamin C is found naturally in fruits and Vegetables, unlike ABC, the human body cannot produce Vitamin C. Yet; it is an essential nutrient required for the growth and repair of tissues in all body parts – yes, including the skin.

The Different Types of Vitamin C

L-Ascorbic Acid (pure vitamin C), tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, ascorbyl glucoside, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, ascorbyl palmitate and retinyl ascorbate, etc.

Benefits

  1. Protects against free radical damage from environmental stressors and pollution: Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage cells and promote discolouration, dullness and wrinkles. As an antioxidant, Vitamin C can protect the skin from these free radicals caused by UV exposure and environmental pollution.

  2. Boosts collagen production: Vitamin C also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It does this by supporting the formation of collagen and elastin fibres.

  3. Reduces signs of ageing: Due to its ability to increase elastin and collagen production, Vitamin C can give the appearance of younger-looking skin.

  4. Fades dark spots: Vitamin C helps reduce and fade the formation of dark pigmentation caused by sunburns, acne scars etc., by blocking the pathway of pigment synthesis.

Side Effects

Vitamin C is considered safe for daily use. But, in high concentrations, it can be irritating, especially when mixed with other acids and for those with super sensitive skin types.
